| One of the first thing people notice about Scott is the fact he exudes confidence, though few know whether it was created by his time at the Academy or reinforced by it. He also seemed to take the Honor Code quite seriously, as he has become what he likes to refer to as 'a man of character' (though his firm stance on right and wrong attributed to the Academy has earned him one of his nicknames). Beyond that, he has a low tolerance for people who try to manipulate others and a little bit of a temper that he keeps under strict control. He prefers to be in the air, having a genuine love of flying and often allowing his usual professional facade to crack to show it. While emotionally reserved, he tends to become attached to people easily and goes to great lengths to protect those that he calls friends. Despite his reservation and somewhat lacking social skills, he is a charismatic man when he needs to be--often becoming the person people turn to in times of crisis. He is also fiercely protective of his brother, often going to extremes to ensure his safety and even foregoing his strict moral compass when pushed. He also has a thing for redheads and women with accents. |

mutation Optic blast is a loose term for Scott's power as it does not come directly from his pair of eyes. Instead, his body generates a psionic field and his powers are linked to the part of his brain that controls his vision. When he uses his power, the psionic field opens up a dimensional doorway to a non-Einsteinian universe where our laws do not pertain. When the energy of that world interacts with this world it creates great directional, concussive force. The energy contained in this universe is apparently infinite, only controlled by Scott's ability to concentrate. He can focus the beams as he would his vision, with the smallest beam being about the diameter of a pencil and the largest being a diameter of fifty feet. Depending on his focus, the pressure of his blasts can range from four to three hundred pounds per square inch. His ability to control his power is limited, based solely on his ability to focus his vision and a taxing mental effort to keep the doorway open. He can use his powers at about fifteen minutes at a time, needing another fifteen to mentally recharge before he can use them safely again. If he overexerts himself past his limits, there are two possibilities. Either, he will burn out his abilities for a period of time (often a few hours, once as long as two days), or, he will be unable to close the doorway until he has had a time to recharge. The latter consequence being the most dangerous, though he is able to close his eyes and shut off the flow of energy (due to his psionic field being constantly in place). Due to their shared genetics, he and Alex are immune to one another's powers. And most people, including Scott himself, believe that his blasts do come from his eyes. Go figure.
skills Scott is a top-level pilot of fixed-wing aircraft and received some of the best military training at the Air Force Academy. He has received training in several fields including: survival and evasion, marksmanship (in both standard issue sidearms and rifles), tactics and leadership, and first-aid. He also is a stellar athlete--having competed on his college baseball, boxing, and wrestling teams. Scott is a well-trained combatant, having supplemented his hand-to-hand training with certifications from Army Combatives courses and a black belt in Judo. He also has a keenly developed sense of trigonometry, allowing him an almost superhuman form of spatial awareness. |

Born as the first of two sons to Air Force test pilot, Major Christopher Summers, Scott was always reinforced as the one who bore the brunt of his father's high expectations. When his brother, Alexander, was born he was charged with looking after him and keeping him safe. The family was raised on an Air Force base in Anchorage, Alaska as his father acted as a consult on many prototype technologies for the U.S. military. Scott grew up wanting nothing more than to be like his father, his mother (Katherine) encouraging his dreams of becoming a pilot. Life was regimented and his upbringing was strict, but it was normal to him. He became an avid baseball player and an excellent student, all the while accompanying his father in the air when possible. He took his role as a guardian to his little brother seriously, becoming known for being a ruthless fighter in Alex's defense.
It was around his fifteenth birthday that news reached him and his brother about the death of his father and mother in a crash involving their family plane. After two monthes of Scott pleading with the military-provided lawyers, the boys were separated despite Scott's protests. Scott was shipped to an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska--where he suffered at the hands of bullies and the cruel man who ran it. Scott was constantly in correspondence (or so he thought) with the lawyers trying to find his brother, only to find out the letters had never been sent. Before his eighteenth birthday, he found out he would receive the trust fund his parents had set up for him--as well as military financial aid--to attend the Air Force Academy.
Scott began to attend the Academy almost as soon as he left the orphanage, putting everything he had into becoming the best pilot in the entire school. He always received top honors in his class and often showed up some of his senior classmates (which also earned him a lot of rivals). He was captain of his baseball team for two years straight, once going All-American and also receiving division honors in wrestling. He worked hard at his academics and continued to receive high (but not quite exceptional) marks in every one of his classes. Showing a particular aptitude for tactics and survival. He graduated at the top of his class.
When he joined the Air Force as a second lieutenant he immediately began to show his worth to his superiors, rising through the ranks based on solid character and surprising skill. He worked on several missions, including a few black ops recon, that quickly gained him the rank of Captain (which he had never been more proud). It was also during this time that he searched exhaustingly for his brother, but was having no luck in finding him. Apparently he had disappeared from the system and his foster family had no (or wouldn't give any) information to Scott about his brother.
It was on one of his 'unofficial' recon missions that his plane was brought down over an African village by the radiation of the solar flare. He got on his radio for help and set his distress beacon, being told he had to march ten miles south in order to rendezvous with an extraction team before communication was lost. It was during this harrowing journey that his powers first manifested, because he was constantly evading and fighting the enemy. He was confronted one mile north of where he needed to be by a convoy of African rebels when he suddenly unleashed his optic blasts as he came under fire. Five trucks exploded and over two dozen hostiles were killed in under two minutes, though Scott wasn't sure how. When he was picked up, several of the soldiers asked him how he escaped or was able to cause so much damage. Which worried them when Scott didn't have a real answer, only said he didn't know.
Upon returning to the United States, Scott requested and received an honorable discharge. He then set about figuring out his powers and finding his brother, taking a job as a pilot for a private jet rental agency. He relocated to New York City after following the trail of scattered information that his brother might be there. |
